In 2025 the trustees were delighted to be successful in their application for a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant

The award was made for Samuel Pepys House: Home of an English Chronicler with the following approved purposes:

  • Produce a business plan and fundraising strategy.

  • Produce an audience development strategy.

  • Appoint a Project and Operations Manager to manage the project.

  • Provide high visibility acknowledgment of the National Lottery Heritage Fund on site, online and in all activities as well as using your project to acknowledge and thank National Lottery Players.

  • Review and update the 2015 options appraisal and produce new RIBA Stage 1 designs.

  • Take proactive measures to be inclusive, remove barriers to access and reach new and diverse audiences through the delivery of this project.

  • Undertake a governance review and recruit new trustees and volunteers.

  • Produce a net-zero strategy for the site and future activities.

  • Evaluate the project in line with the National Lottery Heritage Fund guidance.

  • Develop or update a range of digital outputs including a website and social media, ensuring these are in line with Heritage Fund guidance.

  • Appoint a Heritage and Community Engagement Officer to deliver a range of engagement activities, including tours, open days, music events, a Winter Fayre and craft workshops.

  • Undertake a range of assessments of the site, including an Assessment of Significance, condition survey and measured survey.

The project is ongoing and is due to be completed by the end of 2026. The Project and Operations Management is being undertaken by Ingham Pinnock Associates, and the Heritage and Community Engagement by Free Range Collective.
